Amazon Partners with Angi and Square to Turn Alexa+ into a Personal Concierge

Award Winning

The landscape of voice technology shifted significantly this week as Amazon announced a series of high-profile partnerships for its next-generation AI assistant, Alexa+. By integrating directly with service giants Angi, Expedia, Square, and Yelp, Amazon is evolving its voice interface from a simple speaker into a fully realized "personal concierge." This strategic move, detailed on December 23, 2025, represents a pivot toward "agentic AI"—systems that don’t just provide information but actually execute complex tasks and financial transactions on behalf of the user.

For years, Alexa’s capabilities were largely confined to playing music, setting timers, and controlling smart lights. However, the integration with Angi marks a move into the multi-billion dollar home services sector. Users can now describe a household problem, such as a leaky faucet or a broken roof tile, and Alexa+ will utilize Angi’s network to provide instant quotes, check professional availability, and even schedule an appointment. This seamless workflow eliminates the need for consumers to manually browse directories or place multiple phone calls.

The partnership with Square brings a similar level of automation to the local service economy. Through this integration, Alexa+ can access the booking calendars of thousands of local businesses—ranging from hair salons and barbershops to boutique fitness studios—that use Square’s point-of-sale systems. A user can simply say, "Alexa, book my usual haircut for Friday afternoon," and the AI will cross-reference the salon’s real-time availability via Square, confirm the slot, and add the appointment to the user’s digital calendar.

Travel and dining are also seeing a massive overhaul through new tie-ups with Expedia and Yelp. While previous versions of Alexa could provide basic weather or business hours, Alexa+ can now handle deep, multi-step queries. For instance, a user can ask to find a "pet-friendly hotel in Seattle under $300" via Expedia, and then immediately follow up with a request for "high-rated brunch spots within walking distance" using Yelp’s database. The AI maintains the context of the trip, allowing for a conversational planning experience that mimics a human travel agent.

To power these complex interactions, Amazon has introduced a "Unified Action Framework" that allows Alexa+ to navigate third-party apps without the user needing to enable individual "skills." This tech allows the AI to understand user intent and automatically route the request to the most relevant partner. By removing the friction of app-switching, Amazon is betting that users will prefer a single conversational interface over a screen full of icons, effectively positioning Alexa+ as the primary gateway to the internet.

Safety and privacy remain central to the rollout of these autonomous features. Amazon has clarified that any transaction or booking made through partners like Square or Angi will require a "Voice PIN" or biometrically verified confirmation via the Alexa app. Additionally, the system uses tokenized payment data to ensure that sensitive credit card information is never shared directly with the service providers. This layer of security is designed to build consumer trust as AI agents take on more significant financial responsibilities in the household.

As the "agentic" race heats up between Amazon, Google, and Apple, this expansion places Alexa+ at the forefront of the service economy. Industry analysts suggest that by 2026, the majority of routine service bookings will be handled by voice assistants rather than manual web searches. With the addition of Angi, Square, Expedia, and Yelp, Amazon has created a robust ecosystem that covers almost every facet of daily life, transforming Alexa+ into a powerful tool for productivity and commerce.
